For our inaugural episode, I interviewed Susan Davis. She is a very dear friend of mine. We’ve known each other for over 20 years. Susie mentored me in advocacy and activism, along with Raven Bowen, Amanda Bouchard, and others. I’ve learned from the best. She was at the early Exotic Dancers for Cancer events (and the later ones) that we put on after I founded The Naked Truth, and today, Susie and I are partners with Velvet Steele – running the Naked Truth and Naked List together. You can find out more at nakedtruth.ca
Susan Davis has been fighting for the rights of sex workers since before I came on the scene. She’s been seen in the news frequently, as a sex worker who is willing to go on record with her face out. These days, she coordinates multiple groups and projects to increase health and safety in the sex industry.
You will also see her during Committee Meetings in the House of Commons when she submits her briefs to ensure sex worker voices are heard at a political level. Today, we are going to talk about the reality of being a sex worker in Canada and what sex worker activists are doing to improve health and safety.
This interview will interest colleagues in the biz but it will interest trailblazers with other causes too. Learn how to hold those with power accountable for their actions.
